A Programme Director of Postgraduate Media and Communication Programmes, at the School of Social Sciences, City University, London, he obtained his first degree in Sociology from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences of Athens. He then completed his MA and PhD in Media and Communications at City University and University of Westminster respectively. He previously taught at the University of North London (now part if London Metropolitan University). He has developed extensive expertise in the areas of broadcasting, new media technologies, global media market structures, regulatory frameworks and the public interest. As an active member of the International Communications and Society group, led by Prof. Frank Webster, Petros has developed his own ‘niche’ area which is the European broadcasting policy and regulation. Thus, his research interests evolve around the following areas: Broadcasting policy and regulation in Europe, Media ownership and media pluralism, the impact of technological convergence on regulatory frameworks, the information society, digital television and digital exclusion, and the prospects of public service broadcasting in the digital era.P.Iosifidis@city.ac.uk |
