Karen Ross

Karen Ross is Professor of Mass Communication at Coventry University. She has written extensively on issues of in/equality in communication and culture and her books include: Women and Media: a critical introduction (with Carolyn Byerly, 2006); Women and Media: International Perspectives (with Carolyn Byerly, 2004); Media and Audiences (with Virginia Nightingale, 2003); Mapping the Margins: Identity Politics and Media (2003); Women, Politics, Media (2002); Women, Politics and Change (2001); Black Marks: Minority Ethnic Audiences and Media (2001); Managing Equal Opportunities in Higher Education (with Diana Woodward, 2000); and Black and White Media (1996). She recently completed two HEFCE-funded projects relating to managing equality and diversity in HE and sharing good practice and is working on a third, developing a resource pack for staff focused on working with student diversity. She is currently researching women politicians in Northern Ireland and is coordinator of a pan-European study of gender and the European Elections 2004. She sits on the Executive Board of the International Communication Association, is a coordinating committee member of MeCCSA’s Women’s Media Studies Network and is part of the editorial board of several journals including the Journal of Communication.
