Media, Gender and Representation

This was a half day event was organised by Milly Williamson, Member of the WMSN steering group, together with Sharon Lockyer. Speakers were Milly, Deborah Philips (Brighton), Louise Smith (UEA) and Stacey Abbott (Roehampton).

It re-examined the question of gender and media representation in light of a number of contemporary developments in film, television and journalism. Set in the context of a rise in inequality for women, progressive developments in gender representation were examined alongside a return to more regressive images of femininity.
