Anti-Fascism on Film

Our second event, Anti-Fascism on Film, was held at De Montfort University on 20th February 2014. Supported by the Media Discourse Group and the MeCCSA Social Movements Network, the conference was part of the Cultural Exchanges Festival programme.

The event featured keynote addresses by Dr David Archibald (University of Glasgow) on the Spanish Civil War in international cinemas, Dr Rinella Cere (Sheffield Hallam University) on Latent and manifest anti-fascism in Italian cinema, and Dr Ruth Sanz Sabido (Canterbury Christ Church University) on the Spanish Civil War and TV Drama.

The conference also covered papers on the representation of Jewish Resistance, the Spanish Civil War, and ended with a screening of Vera Elkan’s International Brigades (1937).
