This conference sets out to explore this terrain with papers from practitioners and theoreticians, examining a spectrum that stretches from feature films like Grizzly Man to autobiographical user generated content, from documentaries by Nick Broomfield and Morgan Spurlock to the webcam videos uploaded on YouTube, the shorts on the BBC’s Video Nation website to C4’s 3 Minute Wonders; from the use of home video in ‘autobiographical’ films like Tarnation, My Architect and Capturing the Friedmans, to the ratings hit Who Do You Think You Are? and the centrality of the confessional to artists’ films and the avant garde.
