REaPN events for 2016

For the opening event of the Race, Ethnicity and Postcolonial Network (REaPN), we are planning to organize a day conference on representations of ‘Radicalisation in Culture and Media‘ (June 2016). The concept and representation of radicalisation has been at the heart of various interrelated media discourses on terrorism and radical Islam in recent years, with equations often implied as well as overtly stated. As a result a semantic shift has taken place on the words and concepts of radical/radicalisation with huge political implications for civil society. The conference will be hosted by De Montfort University.

Half a day workshop focusing on the reporting and coverage of the movement ‘Black Lives Matter‘. This will take place in late autumn (venue to be confirmed).
