Three-D Issue 33: 5th Annual Shared Solidarities symposium

On 9th October, the Media Discourse Centre (www.dmu.ac.uk/mdc), the MeCCSA Social Movements Network, and the Documentary Media Centre, hosted the 5th Annual Shared Solidarities symposium, which brings together campaigners and academics to, in the words of Ros Brunt, ‘reflect on both theory and on concrete practices’. Shared Solidarities was founded by academics working at Sheffield Hallam, and is co-ordinated by the Social Movements Network, Chaired by Dr Ruth Sanz Sabido. 

25 people attended the event, including NHS service users, academics, undergraduates, and professional services staff. The Keynote speaker was Dr Sally Ruane, Director of the Health Policy Research Unit, De Montfort University, while other contributions were made by Ed Kiely, an ethnographer from Cambridge University, Andy Brown, De Montfort’s Mental Health Inclusion Manager, and Tania Shah, Leicester Mental Health Partnership Board and Former Community Advocate and Peer Advocate at Lamp Mental Health.
