Barbara Cairns teaches film and television production at
the University of Lincoln where she is Head of Media Production.
Her research interests include the organisation of the New
Zealand film industry and representations of women and Maori
in New Zealand film. She is co-author of Shadows on the
Wall: a Study of Seven New Zealand Feature Films (Longman Paul,
1994) and Shortland Street: Production, Text and Audience (Macmillan, 1996). She is a member of the Executive Committee
of the Association of Media Practice Educators and has represented
both AMPE and MeCCSA in discussions about professional education
and training. She is a documentary filmmaker and now currently
developing a feature film based on the legacy of the New
Zealand Land Wars of the 1860s.
