David Hesmondhalgh

David Hesmondhalgh is Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Media Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Open University, where from 2002 to 2005 he chaired the production of a new undergraduate media course, Understanding Media, which began in 2006. His books include Media Production (2006) Understanding Media: Inside Celebrity (2005, co-edited with Jessica Evans) The Cultural Industries (2002, second edition due 2007) and Western Music and its Others (edited with Georgina Born, 2000). He previously taught at Goldsmiths College, Coventry University, Eccles Sixth Form College and Accrington and Rossendale College of Further Education. He is currently carrying out research into creative work in the cultural industries, supported by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. David is chair of the Administration and Communications sub-committee of MeCCSA, and co-ordinates the association’s newsletter, Three-D.
