REF 2029 sub-panel memberships announced

We are pleased to confirm that the REF2029 sub-panel memberships have been announced today.

MeCCSA is pleased to see panel compositions that reflect a diverse range of backgrounds, institution types, and geographical regions. We have confidence these panels reflect the necessary expertise and experience to serve the interests of our disciplines, and provide the necessary rigour and expert peer review required to underpin the REF.

We have also published a blog post from UOA34 Subpanel Chair, Karen Boyle, about the recruitment process and how they engaged with learned societies:

Congratulations to all the sub-panel members!

This announcement follows the earlier confirmation of a pause in the criteria setting and publication of final guidance for REF 2029 for a short period, as announced by the UK Science Minister Lord Vallance today at the Universities UK conference.

Whilst this pause will impact some planned milestones, the overall REF timetable will not be delayed. As noted the purpose will be to use the pause to “to simplify, streamline and reduce burden on the sector” and incorporate outcomes from the pilot assessment.

MeCCSA will continue working with the UOA leadership teams as the national learned society for our field to support the process and to ensure we are consulted on matters relevant to our subject areas.
