Network Logo

The Postgraduate Network (PGN) is MeCCSA’s national network for postgraduate researchers working in media, communication and cultural studies. We bring together postgraduate researchers (PGRs) from diverse intellectual traditions, methodological backgrounds and cultural contexts to represent them all, especially in such precarious times.

We provide our members with a forum for workshops, seminars and events to discuss contemporary issues shaping our field, while fostering a supportive environment of meaningful academic and professional connections. Our flagship initiative is our annual PGN conference, every September. In 2026, more than 70 participants were welcomed by our lovely colleagues at the University of Reading.

If you would like to join us, MeCCSA membership can be covered through your institutional affiliation, or purchased individually for as little as £12 via the join section.

If you are interested in working with us, we are currently recruiting for the following voluntary positions:

  • Regional delegates (from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, North East & Yorkshire, North West, Midlands, South West, and South East) to act as points of contact for each region, communicating local interests or urgencies to the PGN Committee and helping facilitate local events and networking opportunities with support from the Network.
  • Community managers to coordinate informal socials, events and webinars, but also look after our dedicated newsletter and social media pages.
  • Career managers to gather and disseminate, with the help of community managers, information on publishing pathways, postdoctoral positions, skills training, teaching qualifications and sector-specific opportunities across our newsletter and LinkedIn page.

Feel free to reach out to put yourself forward or ask any questions!

The PGN seeks to be a safe and inclusive space for all PGRs regardless of gender, race, sexuality, ethnicity, disability or religion. This is part of our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Our annual conference and events are open to all PGRs, as well as early career researchers (ECRs) and master’s students who are thinking of applying for a PhD position. We seek to take deliberate steps to make everyone feel a sense of belonging, including providing accessibility requirements for those who may need them. Our Executive Committee is also diverse, and we remain open to suggestions on how we can be more of an inclusive Network.

MeCCSA-PGN was originally established with support from the now defunct Art Design Media Higher Education Academy Subject Centre (ADM-HEA).
